What is served in a traditional Scottish breakfast?

You’ll soon realise why the Scots call it a “fry up”!

The traditional Scottish breakfast has many elements, and yes, most of them are fried! A full Scottish breakfast is by no means the healthy option, but it is a fantastic treat every so often. You’ll find that cafes, hotels, and B&Bs across the country do their Scottish breakfast a little differently, but there are many commonalities to be found too. The main thing that can make or break a Scottish fry up is the quality of the products used. Luckily, Scotland has some excellent butchers and local produce, so you’re in luck!

A full Scottish breakfast might include: toast, beans, fried or scrambled eggs, haggis, back bacon, potato scones, fried mushrooms, grilled tomatoes, and black pudding. These days, it’s common to be offered a smaller version of this at your accommodation or even a vegetarian/vegan fry up. Don’t miss the opportunity to try some of these delicacies while you are here!
